Required Investment

The Required EB-5 Investment Amount Depends on Where the Project Is Located:

  • $800,000 for projects located in a Targeted Employment Area (TEA)
  • $1,050,000 for projects not located in a TEA
TEAs are generally areas with high unemployment or rural locations, or can qualify as infrastructure, as defined under current USCIS rules. In addition to the EB-5 investment amount, investors should expect administrative fees, legal fees, and other costs associated with the process.

Two Ways to Invest:
Direct vs. Regional Center

Most EB-5 investors today participate through regional center–sponsored projects, though the structure and risk profile can vary significantly from project to project.

Direct EB-5 Investment

  • Investor invests directly into a business they help own or operate
  • Jobs must be direct, W-2 employees of the business
  • More control, but also more operational responsibility

Regional Center EB-5 Investment

  • Investor invests through a USCIS-designated regional center
  • Jobs may include indirect and induced jobs, calculated through economic models
  • Commonly used for larger projects and passive investors
